Purpose of Role

The Associate Category Analyst is responsible for supporting the IT Category Managers in assisting with the IT sourcing and execution of strategic and complex IT sourcing projects through the full procurement lifecycle.

 

This position sits within our Services Procurement Function, for which you will report to an IT Category Manager. The team consists of several complementary roles including Category Manager’s, Category Specialists and a dedicated Tactical Buying Team. The Associate Category Analyst will work closely with the IT Category Managers, Project Mangers, Finance, Business stakeholders, Legal and the product and process owner within the wider McLaren Group.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Support the IT Category Managers and the Head of Services Procurement in the delivery of agreed strategic objectives in line with the IT strategy and relevant Business Plans.
  • Ensure consistent procurement processes are undertaken and adhered to select the vendor that will provide optimum value and delivery for McLaren. This will include as appropriate, assessment of vendor risk, objective management of evaluation processes, negotiation and contract execution.
  • Assist in Identifying the commercial opportunities and sourcing strategies within (and where appropriate across) the various McLaren companies in the IT expenditure category.
  • Supporting the IT Category Managers in the execution of strategic and/or complex IT sourcing projects.
  • Analyse the IT spend on a regular basis to identify cost saving opportunities and efficiencies.
  • The annual IT spend is circa £19M.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Supporting the IT Category Managers with market research, commercial analysis, specific data analysis and other analytical requirements. 
  • Assisting in delivering Internal team and wider stakeholder training on various procurement processes.
  • Support in the management of the new vendor process, contract sign off process and contracts data on a day to day basis.
  • Provide assistance to the IT Category Managers in developing category management strategies.
  • Assist in identifying cost saving initiatives of assigned category through analysis of spend and performance data.
  • Analyse business and market trends to recommend new strategies for increased cost savings initiatives.
  • Review business activities and provide feedback to the IT Category Managers and Head of Services Procurement.
  • Create business presentations as and when required.
  • Assist to prepare customised reports when needed.
  • Provide assistance to the IT Category Managers to define, develop and deliver the IT Category Plans and identify appropriate sourcing strategies on a rolling programme of areas to be addressed which generate benefits and achieve financial savings whilst mitigating risk for McLaren.
  • To support / manage contract renewals where required.
  • To apply knowledge of contractual terms and conditions ensuring commercially attractive terms are agreed and contract spend remains in budget while mitigating risk.
  • To apply knowledge of IT services to implement appropriate contractual safeguards, SLAs and other operational measures to ensure vendors are incentivised to deliver a robust service.
  • Work collaboratively with all internal stakeholders (Facilities, Finance, Legal and Service Owners) throughout sourcing projects to ensure continued alignment of objectives.
