Purpose of the role: Reporting to the Principal Engineer – Powertrain Controls the role involves supporting all aspects of building and validation the base engine calibration that forms the core of the engine control strategies in support of our Performance Driveability Emissions and Diagnostics attributes. A key emphasis is on the transfer of steady-state data to achieve exceptional engine control in the highly dynamic environment of the vehicle. The role is expected to be based at our test facilities in Spain but may require travel to other test locations around the world.
Principal Accountabilities
Principal accountabilities: Working with data derived from engine dyno the candidate will be required to manage and interpret large datasets and understand how this can be modelled in reduced form through a physically-based model representation inside the Engine Control Unit (ECU). Understanding the requirements for accuracy in engine plant models such as torque air-charge estimation etc. to meet requirements for achieving powertrain attributes such as performance and driveability. Perform vehicle tests to determine the accuracy of model-based control strategies under transient conditions Understand interactions with control functions that form part of the driveability targets emissions compliance requirements as well as those for on-board diagnostics. Contribute to the continuous improvement and further development of analysis methods and processes using algorithms and statistical modelling techniques as well as development of tools that can help other engineers better interpret engine data.
