Purpose of Role

  •  “Design the future of performance”.
  • Create ‘clean sheet’ high impact designs for Advanced concept programs compatible with concurrent and future engineering exercises to the McLaren Design Process (MDP)
  • Lead the exterior and/or interior Advanced programs.
Principal Accountabilities

  •  Lead an advanced design project team to deliver the design vision/strategy.
  • Run & set the agenda of weekly Design Review(s) and deliver minuted feedback/actions.
  • Input into workloads, manpower and timing of projects with management team.
  • Create high impact content for internal and senior presentations (2D & 3D). Challenge the norm.
  • Research, collate and create vision through multi media to highlight future trends.
  • Work cross functionally with sales and marketing and innovative groups to bring future designs to life.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Engineering teams to help realise McLaren future design portfolio and realise growth expansion and vision..
  • Brief external suppliers and lead collaborative projects.
  • Present & sell design concepts to senior management.
  • Communicate progress and critical issues to the Design Manager & Head of Advanced Design.
  • Attend program and engineering reviews on behalf of Design.
  • Ability to create own 3D designs using SubD or alternative solutions that easily transfer into visualisation data.
  • Understand and explore technical packages.
  • Stay current with latest trends in automotive exterior and interior design as well as consumer electronics, product, fashion, architectural, and related design fields.
  •  Allocate secondary tasks to team members, such as preparing review content.
  • Input into Design Strategy.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Education to Degree level minimum. Minimum 10 years experience.
  • Good verbal & written presentation skills.
  • Excellent 2D sketching skills, digital and analogue.
  • Good program timing skills.
  • PC literate : Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Strong Photoshop and SubD skills. Alias is a plus.
  • Extensive experience on full size and scale clay properties.
  • Has led multiple exterior and / or interior advanced programs.
