Purpose of Role
  • As the Engineer - CAE Passive Safety (Crashworthiness), you are responsible for the development and validation of Crashworthiness performances. Your role covers maintaining, analysing and reporting on components and sub-system models.


  • You will follow the simulation and data analysis plan in order to deliver the best Passive Safety performance.  


This is a hybrid position, you will be required to be on site 3 days a week.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Maintaining, analysing, correlating and reporting on the vehicle and system models. Models will be used to study performance against targets relating to Passive Safety regulations. Studies will relate to design of new vehicle architecture and resolution of issues on current platforms. 
  • Performing Passive Safety simulations and work with project engineers to assess risk on new projects and develop plans to manage this risk thought virtual and physical test activities. 
  • Responsibility for Crashworthiness model build according to methodologies stablished by the Principal Engineer - CAE Passive Safety. 
  • Developing robust models to assist the design and development activities of the vehicle program, by having an understanding FE model performance, analysis of test date and basic engineering principles.
  • Determining the most efficient engineering techniques and deliver maximum value to program, through an optimised modelling approach.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experienced in an OEM or Tier1 with a good level of Crash and Safety technical knowledge. 
  • Experience in delivery of CAE Passive Safety vehicle attributes from concepts through to series production. 
  • Good knowledge of LS-Dyna, and Hyperworks or ANSA, META is essential.
  • Good knowledge in Crashworthiness simulation for front, rear and side load cases. 
  • Knowledge of Roof Crush, Pendulum, Pedestrian Protection or Interiors Head Impact would be beneficial. 
  • Good knowledge of Safety Regulations (ECE-R and FMVSS). 
  • Experience in CAE simulation of composite structures and material characterization. 
  • Good analytical, written and oral presentation skills. 
  • Engineering Degree 2:1 or above is essential. Mechanical or Automotive is desirable.
  • Experience of metallic and composite materials is required as the vehicle structure uses both.
  • Knowledge of various vehicle systems is desirable.
