Purpose of Role

As the Series Designer Engineer you will design components for high performance to help drive QCR countermeasure.

You will work with the Series - Body & Chassis Team of Engineers and Technical Experts, responsible for designing parts to high quality standard and taking ownership of design, project management and delivery of components.

You will also interface with other engineering teams and take responsibility for integration of designs with Body systems.

This is a hybrid position, you will be required to work on site 3 days a week.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for components design, from concept to design development to delivery on time to McLaren programmes.
  • Liaising with suppliers and development partners, to deliver designs to defined technical specifications in line with the project timing.
  • BoM management and delivery of component and sub-system for the assigned designs in SAP.
  • Responsible for creating & maintaining technical Specifications, DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans.
  • Taking ownership to meet cost, weight, timing and quality targets within DFM and DFA requirements.
  • Contributing to the technical assessment, integration and application of appropriate technology.
  • Ensuring the components interface seamlessly to the wider car.
  • Responsible for design release in line with Engineering Release Timing Schedule requirements.
  • Cooperating with the Series team in the execution and evaluation of results of component testing. Supporting vehicle development activities including test specification, parts supply, troubleshooting and post test component evaluation.
  • Leading robust resolutions to engineering concerns.
  • Supporting vehicle manufacturing, launch & planning.
  • Preparing and presenting material to support external and internal project status reviews.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A good level of technical knowledge & industry experience of high performance body & system design, test & production is essential.
  • Advanced CATIA V5 2D/3D draughting/ solid and surface modelling skills is essential.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of GDT principals and application.
  • Competence in FEM calculation of mechanical components, both under static and dynamic loading condition is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Project management processes within SAP system is desirable.  
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products is essential.                          
  • Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery is highly desirable.
  • Component & system design within an APQP or similar framework including FMEA, component planning and PPAP is desirable.

  • 1-3 years design and development experience.
  • Excellent feasibility assessment skills including design for manufacture and DFMEA input
  • Ambitious and self reliant - intrinsically self motivated.
  • Good team skills, willingness to work cross-functionally      
  • Well organised and delivery focused – with demonstrable track record of on-time delivery.
