As Functional Safety Engineer, you will be responsible to ensure development and achievement with State-of-the-Art Functional Safety attributes across our full range of Sports, Super and Ultimate series vehicles to current and future McLaren Road cars.
To join a highly successful Functional Safety team who effectively manage the Functional Safety activities in accordance with ISO 26262. With a small high-performing team and an interesting number of projects under development at McLaren Automotive, this position has a broad scope and touches different technical areas, dealing with software developed in-house and supplied, internal and external stakeholders, item-level, and vehicle-level analyses, traditional and McLaren’s Zonal E/E Architecture.
This position has a particular interface to Powertrain and Chassis systems, besides our Functional Safety team involved in other areas such as Body, ADAS, HMI/UX, Software development and testing facilities with Agile methodology. Therefore, previous experience or desire to expand your learning in these areas in future would be a plus. The fast-paced development and bespoke target platform provide a challenging environment suited to an engineer who needs to quickly develop skills in new areas and liaise with other engineers within a multidisciplinary team.

Principal Accountabilities and key responsibilities
· Strive for "Safety culture" and "Safety first mindset".
· Actively participate on regular alignment meetings and bring clarity into daily-FuSa sync as needed.
· Work closely with Safety manager and team on closure of assigned FuSa deliverables.
· Support FuSa V-cycle activities completion on assigned systems (DIA, Item definition, HARA, FSR, System & Vehicle tests), at each MAL gateway.
· Responsible for inductive and conductive safety analysis (FMEA, FTA, DFA) for assigned modules.
· Ensure FuSa requirements & test specification traceability and consistency at all levels in Doors/ Jama.
· Ownership and review support on content required for closure on program safety reviews & assessments.
· Knowledge of Hardware & Software with its interfaces to Systems
· Support VLSE & Safety Manager in MAL program planning, deliverables, safety reviews & assessments.
· Responsible for definition and alignment of DIAs with suppliers and follow up activities in MAL's interest.
· Support development of safety requirements and associated architecture across other systems
· Create Safety requirements and support function/system owners.
· Support compliance activities toward standard practices and work products to meet the requirements of ISO 26262 & ISO 21448.
· Collaborate closely with all FuSa stakeholders (Systems, hardware, software, validation, and suppliers) for successful FuSa delivery of domains/ systems assigned.
Required Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
· Working experience in standards like Functional safety ISO26262 & SOTIF ISO21488.
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
· Ability to solve with logical and systematic approach.
· Working experience with Product V-development model.
· Brief understanding of safety-related Hardware-Software interface requirements.
· Ability to produce formal documentation to a highly professional standard.
· Experience in applying safety standards, including safety analysis (HARA, FMEA, FTA, etc.).
· Experience with of requirement management & tracking tools (e.g. Doors, Jama, Jira).
· Understanding of the automotive electrical architectures and exposure to communication protocols/ standards (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.).
· Knowledge of vehicle domains such as powertrain, chassis, infotainment, and body controls.
· Organised, systematic and understand the process of fault finding.
· Experience with safety-related Hardware-Software interface requirements.
· Ability to develop software with MATLAB/Simulink (good to have).

Educational Requirements:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferably 1st or upper 2nd) in or equivalent in a Electronics/ electrical/ computer science/ software engineering with relevant subject specialization.
· FuSa certification (good to have).
